I am pursuing the art major because I have a passion for design used in the physical world, as well as finding the delicate balance between function and appearance. This passion lead me to pursuing the career of industrial design: “Industrial design (ID) is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer." One of the best options to achieve this goal of becoming an industrial designer is to attain an undergraduate degree in art, and from there continue into graduate school to study industrial design. Most of my pieces are of a utilitarian design quality, attempting to maximize the affect of few visual elements in the piece. I believe this style, when done correctly, allows finding the purest design possible, while conveying the desired theme, as well as overall being aesthetically successful. My long-term goal is to shape, design, and improve the products the world uses everyday.
